Exotic Pets

Are dogs and cats not for you? Be a little different with exotic pets, whether they’re amphibians (frogs, toads, newts and salamanders), reptiles (snakes, lizards, tortoises and terrapins) or everything else (tarantulas, scorpions , millipedes, stick insects, crabs, snails).

Pros:

  • Lower maintenance than, say, cats or dogs
  • Do not require daily walks
  • Do not require cat flaps
  • Take up relatively little space
  • Do not make loud noises (except some frogs and crickets)
  • Do not damage furniture
  • Do not malt
  • Do not smell

Cons:

  • Expensive: buying the pet, the equipment and food
  • Exotic pets tend not to be very cuddly
  • Finding a vet that knows how to treat exotic pets
  • Your exotic pets probably won’t recognise you or form an emotional connection to you
