Are dogs and cats not for you? Be a little different with exotic pets, whether they’re amphibians (frogs, toads, newts and salamanders), reptiles (snakes, lizards, tortoises and terrapins) or everything else (tarantulas, scorpions , millipedes, stick insects, crabs, snails).
Pros:
- Lower maintenance than, say, cats or dogs
- Do not require daily walks
- Do not require cat flaps
- Take up relatively little space
- Do not make loud noises (except some frogs and crickets)
- Do not damage furniture
- Do not malt
- Do not smell
Cons:
- Expensive: buying the pet, the equipment and food
- Exotic pets tend not to be very cuddly
- Finding a vet that knows how to treat exotic pets
- Your exotic pets probably won’t recognise you or form an emotional connection to you
