Probably the easiest form of animal husbandry, beekeeping is a rewarding hobby that leaves you with a huge amount of leftover honey and beeswax for friends and family. No prizes for guessing what the main disadvantage is …bee stings!
Pros:
- Rewarding
- Lots of honey and beeswax
- Encourages you to plant more flowers and herbs
- Good for the environment
- Bees are relatively self-reliant – you only really need to collect honey & wax twice a year
Cons:
- Expensive: buying the equipment
- You need space for it
- One bee sting hurts. Multiple bee stings really hurt!
- Complaints from neighbours
