Learning an instrument is a big undertaking (it doesn’t happen overnight) but it can be one of the most rewarding hobbies. And there are so many to choose from: orchestral, traditional, pop/rock, or even your own vocal chords!
Pros:
- There are dozens of instruments: something for everyone
- Boosts your self-confidence
- Encourages creativity and self-expression
- It makes you more employable
- Improves concentration and cognitive ability
- A life skill, like riding a bike
- Teaches you patience and perseverance
- Sense of achievement / rewarding
- You might end up playing in a band or orchestra (social)
Cons:
- Requires a lot of practise and determination
- Can be expensive (the cost of the instrument)
