Kayaking

Canoeing and kayaking are the best way of exploring lakes, rivers, canals and the coast at your own pace. It’s quite a versatile hobby too: while most people enjoy a relaxing paddle there are others who prefer waves, rapids, and barrel rolls.

Pros:

  • Very easy to learn
  • Good upper body workout
  • Relaxing
  • Faster than paddleboarding
  • More storage space in a kayak than on a paddleboard
  • Easier to paddle on white water than on a paddleboard
  • Go at your own pace
  • Can be enjoyed at any age
  • Low risk of injuries

Cons:

  • Reliant on the weather
  • Not as good a workout as paddleboarding
  • ‘Spray skirts’ are scary for beginners who capsize
