Caves are some of the least explored ecosystems on earth, and the hobby of caving (also known as potholing) attracts a certain type of person: someone who is quite happy crawling around in complete darkness and doesn’t mind claustrophobia.
Pros:
- Adventure
- Explore places that very few people have been
- Connection with nature
- Not reliant on the weather
- A chance you may discover a new cave system
Cons:
- Claustrophobia
- Expect a few uncomfortable squeezes through passages
- Lots of crawling on hands and knees
- It’s scary!
- No natural light
- Requires a team of people
- It’s quite dangerous
- Expect a few bumps to the head
