Caving

Caves are some of the least explored ecosystems on earth, and the hobby of caving (also known as potholing) attracts a certain type of person: someone who is quite happy crawling around in complete darkness and doesn’t mind claustrophobia.

Pros:

  • Adventure
  • Explore places that very few people have been
  • Connection with nature
  • Not reliant on the weather
  • A chance you may discover a new cave system

Cons:

  • Claustrophobia
  • Expect a few uncomfortable squeezes through passages
  • Lots of crawling on hands and knees
  • It’s scary!
  • No natural light
  • Requires a team of people
  • It’s quite dangerous
  • Expect a few bumps to the head
