Squash

Squash has been booming since the early 2000s thanks to a Forbes study that named it the healthiest sport in the world, based on a comparison of fitness benefits (of which there are many) and the chance of injuries (which is low). Give it a go!

Pros:

  • Squash courts can be found in most leisure centres
  • Not dependant on the British weather
  • A really good calorie burner
  • Simple rules / easy to learn
  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Good cardio workout
  • Improves flexibility, balance, agility and speed
  • Fitness: good for building muscle endurance & strength
  • Boosts self-discipline, motivation, self-esteem and confidence
  • It’s social
  • Low risk of injury

Cons:

  • Requires an opponent (hard to practice alone)
  • Requires access to a squash court
  • Cannot really be practised at home
