‘The sport of kings’ might not be around forever but it remains a big money earner for the handful of people who practise the hobby. For spectators it provides an opportunity for entertainment, socialising and gambling.

- Rewarding after so much investment (time and money)
Cons:
- Expensive: buying a horse, buying land, upkeep, veterinary bills, transport etc.
- Requires a lot of land
- Animal rights activists: the hobby won’t last forever
