An expensive hobby for people who want something unique, who don’t mind being looked at, and who don’t care for mod-cons. Supposedly ‘one of life’s greatest pleasures’, they’re usually quite a good investment too.
Pros:
- Unique
- Style: look great and turn heads (for those who want to be seen)
- Do not handle like modern cars, and can be more fun to drive
- Usually increase in value over time
- Become part of a community and meet new people
- Easier to repair than newer cars
Cons:
- Expensive (initial purchase, maintenance, and fuel)
- You may start collecting classic cars (expensive)
- Classic cars are less reliable, less safe, less comfortable, and less environmentally-friendly
- No ‘mod-cons’: sat-nav, air-con, or electric windows
- You’ll still need an ‘ordinary’ car for everyday trips
